Join Guiding Light's Grant Aleksander
for a Documentary Film Screening and Rally
in Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY-July 29 , 2002 - At 2pm on August 4th, Guiding Light's Grant Aleksander will host a screening and discussion of a new film, "Life Behind Bars", at the Glen Theater in Watkins Glen, NY (112 N. Franklin Street). Narrated by Mary Tyler Moore, this compelling documentary contains rare undercover footage exposing cruel factory farming conditions. It shows how pigs, chickens, and cattle live on industrialized farms, and it contrasts these conditions with how farm animals live in more natural settings. This event is FREE and open to the public.

At 3pm, after the film screening and discussion, people will gather at LaFayette Park (on 4th Street, 1 block east of Franklin Street) in the center of Watkins Glen for a Rally Against Factory Farming. Concerned citizens will join together to voice opposition to industrialized factory farms, which are attempting to move into the Finger Lakes region of New York state. In addition to Grant Aleksander and other speakers, the Rally Against Factory Farming will feature informational displays and educational literature.

Factory farms are notorious for polluting the environment, for diminishing property values, and for threatening the quality of life in rural communities. These industrialized operations also subject animals to inhumane conditions, confining them in cages and crates so small that they cannot walk, turn around, or even lie down comfortably.

The film screening and rally are being organized by Farm Sanctuary, the nation's largest farm animal protection organization, with over 100,000 active members across the country. Farm Sanctuary works to end farm animal suffering and promote the humane treatment of animals used for food production through legislative initiatives and legal actions, investigative campaigns, humane education and public awareness projects, and direct rescue and shelter efforts coordinated with our New York and California farm animal shelters.
