Local Musicians Unite to Benefit Farm Sanctuary

Jennie Stearns, Kathy Ziegler and Mary Lorson & Saint Low will play the Ithaca Artist Hoot

Watkins Glen, NY - May 21, 2007 - Local musicians take the stage May 24, 2007, at a benefit for Farm Sanctuary, the nation's leading farm animal protection organization. The "Ithaca Artist Hoot" will be held at Castaways, 413 Taughannock Blvd. Doors open at 8 p.m. A donation of $10 is suggested.

Farm Sanctuary supporter and local musician Jairo van Lunteren coordinated the event, which includes performances by: Johnny Dowd, Hubcap, Mary Lorson & Saint Low, Trevor MacDonald, The Small Kings, The Splendors, Jennie Stearns, Kathy Ziegler, and DJs Bob Proehl and Luke Frenchel.

"This benefit will shine a spotlight on the outstanding creativity and skill of area musicians, as well as the critical work done by Farm Sanctuary on behalf of farm animals everywhere," said van Lunteren. "I can't think of a better complement to the local music scene than a commitment to a compassionate cause."

Next month, Farm Sanctuary plays host to another benefit concert. Indie legend John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats headlines a two-day event June 16 and 17, which includes solo, acoustic performances by Darnielle, fellow Mountain Goat Peter Hughes, and Perry Wright of The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers.
