Farm Sanctuary's New York Shelter Opens 2005 Tour Season
Memorial Day Open House Offers Free Tours
WATKINS GLEN, NY - April 22, 2005 - Farm Sanctuary, the nation's leading farm animal rescue, shelter and advocacy organization, will open its 175-acre Western New York Shelter for tours beginning Sunday, May 1, 2005. Visitors will come face to face with curious cows, playful pigs, talkative turkeys, and hundreds of other spirited and social animals. Often memorable and moving, encounters with these extraordinary survivors have opened the hearts and minds of countless guests. By inspiring compassion in those who meet them, the animals at Farm Sanctuary truly have a special knack for making friends.
The 2005 New York Shelter season runs from May 1 through October 31 with the following tour schedule:
May-September-October
Guided tours are held Saturday and Sunday on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
June-July-August
Guided tours are held Wednesday through Sunday on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m.
Farm Sanctuary will also host a special Memorial Day Open House on Monday, May 30 that includes free tours of the Farm from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On all tour days, Farm Sanctuary guests are welcome to browse a unique visitor center and country gift shop.
Farm Sanctuary offers reservations for overnight stays at bed-and-breakfast cabins located on the shelter grounds. In addition, accommodations can be found nearby in Watkins Glen, NY and throughout the beautiful Finger Lakes region. Directions: Take Rt. 409 West from Watkins Glen to Rt. 23 West (toward Tyrone). After about 8 miles, turn left onto Aikens Road and you will see the Farm Sanctuary Visitor Center on the left after about 1 ½ miles.
