Reward Offered in Hunt for Duck Killers
Middle Island, NY- September 17, 2004 - Farm Sanctuary, a national farm animal protection organization, is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the conviction of the guilty parties involved in the Middle Island duck slaying.
According to local reporters, 38 ducks were found dead, mangled, and scattered along Church Lane in Middle Island. The Suffolk County SPCA, in cooperation with Suffolk County Police, is investigating this cruel incident. However, no arrests have been made yet. If caught, the offenders face 38 counts of animal cruelty under New York state felony law.
Gene Baur (formerly Bauston), President of Farm Sanctuary, explains, "Farm Sanctuary and its supporters are determined to create a future in which people understand it is unacceptable to torture animals. The hundreds farm animals living at our east & west coast shelters were all rescued from situations involving abuse or neglect."
