Animal Healthcare Internship

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Animal feeding and watering.
  • Assisting with animal health care and treatments
  • Assisting with weekly animal health checks
  • Animal health care projects
  • Shelter administrative projects (animal charting, ordering animals supplies, etc.)
  • Shelter cleaning and habitat projects
  • Maintaining animal rehabilitation areas and treatment rooms
  • Monitoring animal health and animal integration/relocation
  • Assist with transporting small animals to veterinary appointments

Qualifications:

  • Excellent animal behavior observation skills
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions and meet animal care schedules
  • Ability to work in harsh/all weather conditions
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting
  • Ability to assist with animal health care treatments and humane restraint
  • Ability to assist with maintenance health care (hoof trimming, tusk trimming, etc.)
  • Stong people skills
  • Capacity to work well in a team setting and with variety of people
  • Must be reliable and dependable
  • Minimum of one year experience at animal care facility
  • Volunteer history at animal advocacy organization(s) preferred
  • Commitment to Farm Sanctuary's animal care policies and standards
  • Commitment to Farm Sanctuary's organizational programs and goals

Specifications

  • Volunteer commitment of 40 hours per week
  • Weekends and holidays may be required
  • Shelter department interns are assigned evening shelter security shifts, maximum of 3 per week
  • Two to three month commitment required
  • Shared housing available on sanctuary premises
  • One to three month commitment required
