The Farm
New York Country Hoe Down
August 1 & 2, 2009 ● Watkins Glen, NY
Camping Information
Country Hoe Down participants are welcome to camp at the sanctuary Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1. The following information will ensure that you have a safe and fun time while staying at Farm Sanctuary’s New York Shelter.
If you plan to camp at the sanctuary, you will be solely responsible for bringing your own equipment (i.e., tents, bedding, etc...). Our gift shop is stocked with a modest amount of food for your convenience. The People Barn restrooms will be open 24 hours a day, though we regret that our facilities cannot accommodate the volume of water required to provide showers for participants during their stay at Farm Sanctuary. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate the understanding of our guests. We will host a communal bonfire on Saturday night. All other fires at the shelter are prohibited. Smoking is allowed only on the front porch of the People Barn.
Please be aware that even in the summer months, temperatures at night can become very cold, so be prepared with appropriate clothing and bedding. Also be advised that the noise from the Saturday night Hoe Down Barn Dance may extend late into the night. If you expect that this will be a problem for you, please prepare yourself with any materials you may need to minimize the disturbance (e.g., earplugs).
You will receive a map with your registration confirmation which will indicate where to park and camp. For your safety, and that of our animal residents, we ask that you please park and camp only in designated areas. We will provide guests with plenty of opportunities throughout the weekend to experience our shelter and spend quality time with the rescued animals. No guests will be allowed outside designated camping and recreation areas between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. unless accompanied by a Farm Sanctuary staff member.
Alcohol Policy
Farm Sanctuary permits the lawful consumption of alcohol in the People Barn and designated camping areas only. For the safety of all guests and animal residents, alcohol is not allowed in or around any of the barns or animal pastures at any time. Anyone found in violation of these restrictions will be asked to leave the premises.
Vegan Policy
Out of respect for our rescued farm animal residents, as well as the mission of our organization, we respectfully ask that you refrain from consuming any animal products while camping on Farm Sanctuary property.
Companion Animals
Unfortunately, due to the size and nature of this event, companion animals are not permitted. This is for their safety, as well as that of our animal residents.
We hope this information will ensure that you enjoy your weekend at Farm Sanctuary. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you!
